I’m tired of reading articles, mostly by secular press, about how bad and corrupt Christians are. The focus needs to be on Christ.
If I have chosen to follow Christ, what does it matter to me if the whole world thinks I’m a hypocrite or my brothers and sisters are? Sure, it does to some extent, but I’d rather focus on Christ and what he wants me to do each day. How often did we see Jesus and the disciples worrying what everyone thought of them? We like to think the early church was so perfect and different than now. But, even then, there were problems.
Jesus didn’t leave his mission, because of the weakness of his disciples. Later on, Paul and Peter and the others didn’t give up their calling because of the failings of the early church.
I have switched churches three times in the last 18 years. When I got to where I disagreed with what a church was teaching or the direction they were going, I asked God for guidance to lead me somewhere else. He has always been faithful. I’ve been through pastor’s adultery, weird occult stuff wrongly brought into one of the churches, etc… But, I stay in in for Christ.
My point is to the disillusioned: keep seeking. Seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened. A perfect church will never appear, if anything churches may just get worse. But it is about Christ, not only about the church.
