My appreciation for Bruce Springsteen happened much later than most people. It was 2005 to be exact. I was given a copy of “Nebraska” by Barton Carroll when we were touring with Crooked Fingers because I told him that I wasn’t a fan of Bruce. He told me to give that a listen and then tell him I hadn’t changed my mind.
I am not sure where I had convinced myself that Springsteen wasn’t worth listening to. Maybe it was because my older brother used to play “Born in the USA” non-stop. Pretty much anything he loved, I hated. Turns out my brother had good taste in music and I was just being bitchy.
Barton’s gift of “Nebraska” started my new found love of Bruce Springsteen. Since then, I have been devouring his back catalog of classics and taking interest in his new music.
This video of “Prove it All Night” (below) is a wonderful representation of his raw energy and honest songwriting.
