Driving to the train station the other morning, I had no idea that it was the first day of Hannakuh (Did I spell that right?). I was enlightened by Lin Brehmer, the ever resourceful morning man on Chicago’s finest radio station WXRT, who played this song. At long last an alternative to Adam Sandler’s Hannakuh Song, which is a fine song, don’t get me wrong, but it’s about time for something besides Hannakuh Song version 4-ish. Also, there are simply not enough songs out there dealing with the pressures of a spelling bee. I myself was traumatized in 3rd grade, when I made it to the regional round of the Cranston, RI spelling bee, and found myself on stage as the only boy with 9 or so girls from other schools. I made it to the final 2 and was knocked out when, halfway through “newspaper” I forgot which “p” I was on and spelled it “newsper”. A crushing loss. I’d like to claim I threw the bee to have a shot at my hot co-finalist, but I didn’t, and she probably still laughs at me whenever she reads a paper. Anyway, The LeeVees are an offshoot of Guster & a couple other bands and the video is quite festive.
