Seattle hip hop fusion ensemble, The Staxx Brothers, will perform a concert at the Historic Everett Theatre (2911 Colby Avenue, Everett, WA), with 20 Riverside, the Jackson High School Big Band, the Edmonds Community College Big Band, DJ Bebop and jazz-rockers Omega III from Everett High, on April 23, 2011, at 8 pm, with all proceeds to benefit the Historic Everett Theatre.
Here’s the press release for the event:
“By sharing a bill with bands that are professionally active today, these students will witness how relevant Jazz studies is to writing and performing contemporary music. This event is a testament to the importance of music education and the value professional musicians bring when they back to their community. And the kids are going to see what Jazz on a Saturday night is really all about. I hope they wild out.” – Davin Michael Stedman, The Staxx Brothers
Soul United Productions in cooperation The Staxx Brothers and 20 Riverside have launched a unique all-ages and community-oriented event. The concept is this: successful local music acts that owe a heavy debt to Jazz & Blues share the stage with high school & college jazz bands that are carrying on those traditions.
The philosophy is that young musicians will have the chance to participate in the type of exciting contemporary pop music event, with the promotion, buzz and energy that once infused the Jazz experience.
Event cofounder James Orr of 20 Riverside has a deep connection and investment in both worlds having directed The Everett High School Jazz Band during the 2009-10 school year. This event would not have been possible without James’ hard work and his relationships within his community of music educators in the NWst.
The Jazz bands participating in the first annual 425 Fest hail from Jackson High School (directed by Lesley Moffat) and Edmonds Community College (directed by John Sanders). Everett High will be represented by the Jazz influenced Rock band Omega III.
This event is also a fundraiser for The Everett Historic Theatre and the music programs participating in the event. The Rec Room, a soon to be launched recording studio and venue (across Hewitt Ave from Comcast Arena) is donating a private event and recording session to the school that sells most advanced tickets for 425 Fest, to raise money for the Theater and their program. The event is all ages. Tickets are $10. Purchase advanced tickets at The Everett Theater Box Office, at etix.com, or from enterprising music students at schools participating in this event.
