Thanks Andy. I heard them play several X-Ray Spex songs on KEXP this morning and then had my worst fears confirmed.

I’ve always considered Poly one of my greatest heroes from Punk/Postpunk and beyond, and am sorry she departed so relatively young.

 

But it appears she was very happy with her final work, and I shall look forward to hearing it.

My advice:

Just get X-Ray Spex’s 1978 Germfree Adolescents album, which is available in several cd reissues, though only one in the fantastic original running order of the LP, believe it or not!

Her voice and witty personal style truly created the template for Riot Grrrl, though no one from that great movement quite touched her vocals or came near to her gleefully surreal lyrics.
