People say Skynyrd was nothing more than a bar band. My favorite rock groups were mostly all bar bands at first, which is why they became so good at playing. “Freebird” is still one of my very favorite songs, as it is pure melodic muscle, great driving lead/rhythm guitars, and a simple, everyman’s lyric, sung with passion. I sing this song often. I can play it repeatedly to this day. I play it on jukeboxes too. There are now two live versions on the Deluxe Edition of, “One More From the Road,” and I want more with Ronnie Van Zandt singing.
