Many won’t believe this, and I am not joking, but we had a family dog that spoke limited English. My Mom worked with him for a while until he, Ben, a black Labrador Retriever, could say clearly, “Hi Momma, I love you, and I love you Momma.” She was talking to Ben the dog when my Uncle Jack, an Augustinian Priest, was walking in the door and he saw what was going on and said, “Dog’s can’t talk,” just as Ben spoke. Uncle Jack’s visit to the house could not have been timed better, as we knew he was coming from Florida to visit, but we did not know he was in the hallway, about to enter the kitchen. I can still see his face; he was shocked. He’d not even taken off his black overcoat. We all picked up his lower jaw, as it was on the floor.
Ben played goalie for street hockey practice too, and he was better than most of the neighborhood children. He caught the ball in his mouth.

The following videos are NOT, REPEAT NOT, videos of Ben, the Bresnahan family’s talking dog. These are just current vids from Youtube where dog owners think their dogs sound like they’re talking:
