Spotify is here, and I loathe its arrival. That means I’ll be tempted to see if it is better than my current Rhapsody subscription, or worry that it will put Rhapsody out of business, forcing the issue. And just how much time do I have to figure out how to migrate my 28,000+ Rhapsody track selections (not actual files, just the pointers), ratings and playlists to another service? Zilch. Probably not possible anyway.
But I prefer subscription services over outright music file purchasing. I re-created 95% of my vinyl, cassette (dbx-encoded!) and CD collection, and then some. Digitizing it or re-purchasing it would cost a fortune in time or money. And purchasing new tracks on a 30-second hunch is too much of a gamble. But I doubt artists get enough revenue from subscription models. So we’ll see how long this lasts.
Do your research to find out if the features and capabilities will work for you, especially around how you find and evaluate music, and where you listen. This article gives some good insight, but also look at the comments discussing other services besides Rdio and Spotify.
