As soon as I’ve scrounged up enough money to buy a ticket, I’m going to Soundfest. There I’m going to see the likes of The Dickies, The Vandals, Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine, Reagan Youth, Stiff Little Fingers and so many more. Three days of punk, August 19-21 at venues across Seattle. I’ve seen Jello once but never with the Dead Kennedys. Jello rocks! The Vandals put on a great live show. The other bands I’ve never seen and I’ve wanted to see SLF and the Dickies for about thirty years. The price is only $100 for all three days, which is an amazing deal.
A long time ago Pepsi made a commercial showing MXPX are on stage singing “Doctor Says That I’m Not Crazy After ALL” when a teen boy notices an older man next to him in the crowed. “Dad?” he asks, clearly surprised to see his father in the mud and muck of an outdoor punk show. “Hi Kevin,” the father says, holding up the can of Diet Pepsi allegedly making him young and uninhibited. “Keep an eye out for your Mom,” the Dad continues, “I think I lost her in the mosh pit.” That’s me, except I don’t get lost. I took my kids to a free outdoor Flogging Molly show a few years back. They stayed back while I went into the mosh pit. Last year I had double knee replacement. I went to see The Nekromantix in a wheelchair. I went to the Bumbershoot festival in a wheelchair. That’s the breadth of my devotion.
Punk forever!
See You at Seattle Soundfest!
