The Who peaked with Quadrophenia, Elton John peaked with Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and The Rolling Stones peaked with Exile on Main Street. Those three albums are the best ever released. Pete Townshend admits he gave Quad everything he had and their follow-ups proved that. I suggest everyone check out The King Blues. They’re a London band fusing ska with a little rap and punk to make a unique sound. They also have profound, meaningful messages in their songs. They’re very political. Again, the music available commercially these days is banal and meaningless. Bono preaches about people starving in Africa, which is fine, but there aren’t any bands out there screaming about what’s happening in our own country today — not like in the sixties. The closest we got was Green Day‘s American Idiot, but that’s long since faded away and Green Day peaked with that record. Their follow-up was lame.
I’m hoping to drum up enough interest in the King Blues in the United States to motivate them to tour here. With all our entertainment having become so derivative, the King Blues would be a breath of fresh air. Through their fierce left wing politics, they’ve brought back punk to what it should be — angry, ethical, raw and rebellious. Front man Johnny (Itch) Fox sings, shouts, yells and everything in between while banging away on a ukulele. He is backed currently by two guitarists, a bass player, keyboardist and drummer.
