The accompaniments of fame just keep rolling in for The Joy Formidable. Here are Ritzy, Matt and Rhyd on no less than Letterman, and doing a mighty fine job. They have just played such a well thought out game. The thing that really, I mean REALLY blows me away is that I have played this track – Whirring – so many times, and indeed seen it performed live so many times, and yet it stays so immediate and fresh. Tracks that do that are amazingly few and far between. Off the top of my head, what else can you say that about? Maybe Maggie May by the Faces, or one or two Smiths songs can remain untarnished by familiarity in the way that this does….

Of the free, streaming EP, Peter Dysart says, “God how I love “Anemone.” It’s such a powerful song. Building slowly, quietly, breath by breath until its unleashed on the unsuspecting listener. It sends shiver down my fucking spine. Ryd’s bass work is so understated but so well played. Like the magic produced by former UK music acts, these mini-releases are so welcomed, whether as a bootleg live recording or a release like this one or the previous “Roarities” and “Bootleg Vol 1″. While I’m not as big of a fan of the house remixes, the live tracks and outtakes are brilliant.”
