Best of 2011 – Bollywood – Katrina Kaif, By Robert

I’ve lived outside the United States for eleven straight years now. When I open the Yahoo! front page, I invariably see stories about celebrities I’ve never heard of. If you live in the U.S., then you no doubt know who Lady Caga, Justin Beaver, Kesha, the Cardashboard-ians, Katie Perry and Kan Ye West are, but for much of the world’s population, these people are unknown. So I’m the wrong person to ask about a celebrity top ten list.

I can, however, offer you a candidate from outside self-absorbed Hollywood: Katrina Kaif is the hottest commodity in Bollywood now. The half-Indian, half-English model/actress has starred in at least four major movies this year, as well as in the biggest music video of the year (Sheila Ki Jiwani). All this despite not speaking much Hindi. She has product endorsements galore, so her face is everywhere in India.

I would also vote for Lorelei Carlson’s song, “Blueberry Eyes” as the best song of the year, even though it never made the airwaves.
