I had a fine time watching last weekend’s Montana-related playoff games, though the Sam Houston State/MSU blowout was rather painful at times, due to the Bobcats tossing away several good opportunities to at least keep the game close. Perhaps the Griz will fare quite a bit better tonight….
And re: a Division I football playoff system, I couldn’t agree more. The 35-plus BCS (& lesser) bowl games are an absolute embarrassment, at least to anyone who craves both clarity in the National Championship race and a credible reason even to watch the damned things!
Bottom line: A .500 regular season record should in no way assure something called “bowl eligibility”. Bowel eligibility, perhaps!
Hope you enjoy the telecast, Jay. I will be looking to the morning paper tomorrow for a full re-cap.

Griz v. Sam Houston State at 6:00 pm MST this evening on regular nationwide ESPN (and ESPN 3 if you can get it).
This is the Grizzlies 11th appearance in the NCAA "Final Four". Their record in semifinal games is 7-3.
Hopefully the Griz can do something to tarnish their reputation of losing playoff games outside of Missoula.
My hope is that the Griz deliver a better performance against Sam Houston than Sam Houston’s quarterfinal opponent.
Ain’t playoff football great? Isn’t this the way it ought to be? If the FCS did things like the BCS, Montana would probably be playing tonight in either the Dr. Scholl’s Odor Eaters Bowl in Yakima or the Dairy Queen Blizzard Bowl in Anchorage.
