Robert Sherman, WWII (Europe) Army combat veteran, painter, and one of the most remarkable composers of the post-War era. Besides a lot of family movie soundtrack work (Disney, Snoopy Come Home, Charlotte’s Web, etc.) Robert and his brother wrote the fabulous “You’re Sixteen,” made popular by Johnny Burnette, and later, Ringo Starr. I highly recommend the documentary, “The Boys: The Sherman Brothers Story.” It has a most bizarre twist. It should also be noted that Sherman led a combat half-squad into Dachau concentration camp, thus becoming one of the first soldier-witnesses to Dachau. Sherman had joined the army at 17 and his difficult wartime experiences would affect him for the rest of his life. RIP, Robert.
