New Season, the latest album from England’s singer/songwriter Luke Leighfield, is easy to listen to and also packs a light punch.
Songs like the soulful, It’s You, to the slightly heavier, Slow Down, make this new work from Leighfield a versatile collection of songs.
Although there’s nothing really new in Leighfield’s material either musically or lyrically, this a CD that makes you feel good while listening to it. It’s well executed with a perfect blend of guitars, keyboard and percussion.
Track seven, The One Thing, has some stunningly haunting harmonies and precedes the more upbeat and poppy, Live For More.
The final track, Do Not Settle, has some outstanding piano work with the intermittent scream of guitar.
New Season is a collection of songs that are very unpretentious. It’s easy to listen to without being banal. This CD can be listened to with rapt attention or just as easily put on the CD player as background music at a party.
Leighfield has been compared to Coldplay, but I don’t agree with the comparison. Coldplay is pretentious, and as I mentioned before, this is a very unpretentious recording.
