A COLLECTION (2000-2012) from the Be Good Tanyas is a 16-song career retrospective. The collection features two brand new tracks, “LITTLE BLACK BEAR ” and “GOSPEL SONG,” and two new mixes of previously released tracks. The album is already available in North America and will be released around the rest of the world on the following dates: Germany, Switzerland, Australia – September 21; Rest of Europe / UK – September 24.
The Tanyas really are one of my favourite bands, especially when we’re in the mood for something feeling blue and grassy. This retrospective will therefore include the current line up and also when they had the inimitable Jolie Holland in the band.
I’ve no idea why we Brits have to wait so long for the album (or in my case the 2 new tracks and 2 remixes) but in the meantime we can stream to our hearts’ content.
I also have no idea why they have left out The Lakes Of Pontchartrain, IMHO one of their career defining high spost. Maybe because it’s a traditional song, but that doesn’t take away from the way they make it 100% their own.
Enjoy though – they really are an excellent proposition for a Thursday or a Tuesday or St. Swithun’s Day or anytime.
