Then there’s this band from Japan called Taffy (I wonder if they know that it’s slang for Welsh?) who are famous for sounding like Britpop. I mean, some of their songs really do sound like they’ve snatched Louise Wener off the street and have her chained to a radiator. But I like them rather a lot for their unaffected joy in it all. What’s GREAT to see, or should I say hear, is their new single ‘Flower Chain’. The reason for this greatness is that this one bucks the trend and sounds nothing like Sleeper or Elastica – they appear to have evolved, praise be. If I liked them before, I do so even more now. They are still over there – Japan I mean, or even recently Mongolia – but soon they’ll be over here (or wherever you are)…
