The first biography of Nick Drake was published in 1986 and written in Danish. But that wasn’t what made the book unique. What made it special was that the author Gorm Henrik Rasmussen had spent time in 1979 and 1980 at Nick’s house interviewing both of his parents, getting an insight into Drake’s life and thought process that no other biographers could even hint at. Having lived in Denmark at that time, my friend Bent Sorensen gave me a copy and for years afterwards, I suggested that he translate it to English and find a publisher. Well, the English language book Pink Moon is out now and it’s a must read for any Drake fanatics – as you’ll get personal (and musical details) not covered elsewhere, as string arranger and best friend Robert Kirby was also interviewed back in 1979 as well.
