New York band MEN, with JD Samson, Michael O’Neill and a collective of collaborators, has released a new video for the song “Let Them Out Or Let Me In” written in solidarity with Pussy Riot and includes iconic images of Pussy Riot protests.
MEN’s JD Samson has been an active member and spokesperson of the Free Pussy Riot movement for a while now. Besides contributing to the ebook “PUSSY RIOT! A Punk Prayer for Freedom”, which is available via Feminist Press, she organized a Public Reading on August 16th, the eve of the trial’s verdict The Breslin’s Liberty Hall at Ace Hotel in New York. On that eve, Pussy Riot’s inspirational court room statements were read by supporters of the Free Pussy Riot movement, including Chloe Sevigny, Eileen Myles, Karen Finley, Johanna Fateman, Mx Justin Vivian Bond. The Public Reading event was co-sponsored by Amnesty International.
MEN is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective led by LE TIGRE’s JD Samson and Michael O’Neill. Their music speaks of issues such as wartime economies, sexual compromise, and the demand for liberties through lyrical content and an inventive, high-energy stage show. MEN put out their debut record, Talk About Body in 2011 and released their EP NEXT earlier this year. They are currently recording their follow-up album for release in 2013.
