New York singer/songwriter Sophie Auster released her new album Red Weather earlier this month. Here’s the video for the lead single “Run, Run, Run.” The skittering beat and angular piano melody of “Run, Run, Run” underpin a seductively feral vocal from Sophie full of longing and caution. The haunting video conjures nervous splendor as Sophie serenades a ballroom of people consumed by their own relationships who don’t notice her at first but slowly become entranced.
Sophie released her first album when she was 16. The album was a collaboration with Brooklyn-based musicians One Ring Zero. She drew lyrical inspiration from her father’s (author Paul Auster) English translations of French surrealist poems. The album was highly acclaimed in France and quickly found an audience throughout Europe.
