How this CD slipped out here in the U.S. is beyond me. This album displaced Adele atop the charts in the UK and has spawned several hits. There was no push for this on American radio. Emeli has a very mature voice and feel like she has an old soul. The themes here are very adult and eschew the run-of-the-mill light weight fluff that dominates American airwaves these days. That may be its flaw; it’s just too adult. Sandć is part of the Duffy/Winehouse/Adele type of music that espouses 60’s R&B but she distinguishes herself with brilliant self-composed songs and love arrangements. Yeah, there are a couple of dance-y things on this CD and they are very good, but the meat is in the deep cuts. “Clown” is my favorite here and is a real heart breaker. “Next to Me” and “My Kind of Love” also are outstanding cuts.
