In the decades since we discovered (and learned to revere) Sir Lord Baltimore’s proto-Speed Metal debut LP, 1970’s peerless KINGDOM COME, I don’t recall encountering anything quite THIS enticingly-described within the realm of Classic Hard Rock Collector Scum Aesthetics!
Description: Rare 1969 Deep Groove Stereo Original. Cut Corner. Appears Unplayed. Thunder And Roses Was An Early Power Trio From Philadelphia USA, Recorded “King Of The Black Sunrise” And Released By United Artists Records In 1969. This Garage Rock Album Is A Hard Rockin’, Ultra Heavy, Hendrix-Inspired, Slab Of Bluesy Psychedelia. Track One, The Classic “White Lace And Strange”, Was Covered By Nirvana In A Radio Broadcast That Is Included On Their Box Set “With The Lights Out”. The Trio Pay Their Respects To Hendrix With A Strong Version Of Red House, Then Lay Waste With A Blitzkrieg Of Superb Heavy Psychedelic Guitar Like Cream, They Never Let The Blues Influences Swamp The Rock. But perhaps we should lobby for a remastered cd release, before the format dies and we’re denied our very own copies of this exquisite 1969 LP cover—
I was never terribly won over by 1969’s eponymous BLACK PEARL, which HIGH FIDELITY’s then-critic vastly preferred to their Atlantic label mates’ LED ZEPPELIN I! And so many of the Chuck Eddy faves that light up his STAIRWELL TO HELL listings & descriptions have fallen far short of my heavy hopes and dark dreams.
But now, seemingly out of the Non-Taxonomized Sludge Pits of Pre-Metal History, comes this item, courtesy of the collector-servicing vinyl hounds at AudiophileUSA.com.
And I, for one, would love to know what KING OF THE BLACK SUNRISE sounds like, future Hall & Oates producer/sideman and all!
Heaviest regards,
– Tom Kipp
P.S. Apparently, one need but ask and he shall receive!
