Best Classic Sports Cars Of 2014

shutterstock_51117595.downloadAny vehicle that has a compact frame, sleek styling and two seats can be referred to as a “sports car,” in the strictest sense. However, that is not all there is to sports cars, and this has been shown by automotive history. Many sports cars have come and gone, but only the truly iconic ones have stood the test of time and have become legends and are remembered as classic sports cars. So here’s a look at the best classic sports cars of 2014.

1. Lamborghini Countach

The name of this classic Lamborghini should be enough to explain why it’s at the top. Countach means “wow” in Italian, which according to legend, is what factory workers exclaimed after first seeing this sports car. Indeed, when the Countach was first produced in 1974, it was quite the head turner. Scissor doors were featured by the angular, low, wide model and it was one of the earliest super cars.

2. Nissan Skyline R32

It is not surprising that many have called the Nissan Skyline R32 a “Playstation on wheels,” considering the amount of computer power Nissan puts into the Skyline. A laptop can be connected to the R32’s engine management system so that emissions and power controls can be tweaked for greater horsepower and speed.

3. Corvette Sting Ray

When it comes to classic sports cars, the Corvette C2 is the original American idol, also referred to as the Sting Ray. With the power it brings and its V8 engine, the Sting Ray has remained the classic expression of the love that Americans have shared for the past 50 years. Unlike a majority of European sports cars and Japanese sports cars, the C2 emphasizes on muscle rather than refinement, something that has been called “crude” by critics.

4. Aston Martin DB5

As many might be aware, an Aston Martin is the car that James Bond drives, so obviously it is a classic. Unlike the Corvette, which emanates American muscle and power, the Aston Martin DB5 is the embodiment of British elegance, with a touch of glamour courtesy of 007. Too bad, it seems to be a bit inclined to break down, which is just a basic flaw, and does not hinder it from being finding its place in history as a classic sports car.

5. McLaren F1

There is no need to beat about the bush when stating the fact that the McLaren is the world’s fastest road car. An all carbon composite body that is lighter than just about any sports car that can be found on the road today is powered by a 627 horsepower engine. This means that it takes merely 3.2 seconds for the McLaren F1 to go from 0 to 60 mph. Function over form is the preference when it comes to this classic sports car, and while it might not seem too beautiful, it certainly can beat countless sports cars in a speed contest.

Having a classic sports car can be quite a joyous experience, especially if you are a car fanatic, but what good is a sports car if you do not drive it. Even if you have a UK provisional driving licence but are fortunate enough to have any of the above or any other classic sports car, do not forget to take it out for a drive.
