Tvärvägen, which means “the Crossroad” in English, returns with the album This River So Red. Neo-classical chamber pieces for strings and piano are at the center on the new album, recorded live at Atlantisstudion in Stockholm.
Tvärvägen has a unique voice, which has developed off the beaten track. The debut Sånger från Tvärvägen was an eclectic mix of pop, sound experiments and free jazz. The follow up work, Staring Directly Into the Sun had a more airy and minimalistic sound. “This river so red,” the single above, takes Tvärvägen’s musical universe a step further. The melodic language is recognizable, but the arrangements are richer.
The songs belong in the neo-classical genre, in line with contemporary luminaries like Nils Frahm and Max Richter. Tvärvägen consists of composer and musician Henrik Öhberg. This River So Red also features Elsa Wikström (violin), Gunilla Birkedal Lindberg (violin), Peder Sjögren (viola), Marika Dahlbäck (cello) and Joakim Simonsson (piano).
