In Game 3 of the NBA West Semifinals last night between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Golden State Warriors, the Blazers did to the Warriors what the Warriors have done to the NBA for two years. Every time the Warriors made a run at the Blazers in the second half, even closing the lead to single digits a couple of times, the Blazers would hit a couple of 3-pointers and put the Warriors right back where they started. Blazers guard Damian Lillard doesn’t like comparisons to Stephen Curry, taking it as a slight that he should be measured against anyone else, but he sure looked a lot like him last night with his 40 points and 10 assists, including 8 threes. If there was a way to invest in #0 jersey futures, the time to get in on the ground floor would be now.
The difference between the Warriors and most other NBA teams, however, is that the Warriors, with Curry in the lineup, have been able to bring that kind of performance almost every game for an entire NBA season. The Blazers only have to be this good for another three out of the next four games, but that may still be a lot to ask, especially since it is likely that they will see Stephen Curry back on the other side of the court by Game 5 at the latest. For now, though, they only need to think about the next game tomorrow night, when the Moda Center will be the #1 place to be in the NBA.
