The 2016 World Series Started in San Francisco, by Chuck Strom

On the occasion of the San Francisco Giants’ annual visit to Wrigley Field, Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon said the following regarding their victory in San Francisco last year in the National League Division Series:

“I’m telling you, man, Game 4 pretty much won the World Series. I did not want to see Mr. Cueto pitching back here again. I’ll get to see him (Tuesday night), but that’s OK, compared to whatever that day would’ve been.”

Watching the Giants regularly, I haven’t always appreciated the reputation they’ve earned over the years for October mojo. It was gratifying to hear Maddon graciously acknowledge that he, at least, was scared of the prospect of playing them in a winner-take-all contest. Not that I would want to see the Giants bullpen melt down again so spectacularly, as they almost did last night, but I feel all the more glad to have seen what was truly a special moment. Besides, no true fan of baseball could seriously begrudge the Cubs finally reaching the promised land.
