Brotha Groove goes about that Business at VERA PROJECT this Dec 3rd, by Davin Michael Stedman

One of the many things I am thankful for is that I get to genuinely lend a hand to young bands like Brotha’ Groove, that represent the next 15 years of the scene.

I am going to be a special guest like a dashing Uncle from another planet, at their show at The Vera Project on Sunday Dec 3.

They want to play The Staxx Brothers ‘Slick Willie‘. Our trinity of drummers that helped forge that song, David Pender Lofgren, Tom Wilkinson, and Kevin Chryst, would all tell you that ‘Slick Willie’ is as tricky as the man who the song is truly about.

But they also sent me a song of their own called, ‘Be Good To Me’ that is going to be a funk jazz banger when they cut this thing.

This is an all ages show, at one of the most important all age venues in the USA. So if you want to bring your own kid, or nephew or niece to a show, this a good night to introduce them to Seattle music.

I want to help more bands like Brotha Groove, Northern Shakedown, BoobooLala, bands I genuinely like, that have a chance to be about even bigger things, but most importantly are populated by good people that want to work and innovate.

I am also thankful I have a good mentor in Lagos, Nigeria’s own Mtrill Teria. He keeps me thinking of helping foster small business opportunities in Seattle as he is doing in Lagos.

Innovation is a powerful tool that music can’t even exist without.

We take this for granted, but music is one of the most important small businesses around, and Brotha Groove is all about the business of keeping Funk alive in these streets. That’s a mission statement I can shout through for them through a megaphone into a microphone, plugged into a Jamaican sound system.

– Musician and writer Davin Michael Stedman has many musical ventures and is one of the driving forces behind the Staxx Brothers. He will be partying in Kingston, Jamaica soon.
