I just sent Bluejay Hankins my Anthony Red Rose-produced single ‘Free Your Mind’ to have Reggaeville premier. This is biggest raggae website, this song features Sly & Robbie and Lenky Marsden, the man behind Sean Paul’s ‘Get Busy’.
I have spent the last year working with Anthony Red Rose as he crafted one of my acoustic ditties, much like the ones I post every couple days, into the hit he heard in his head in Kingston.
I have to get up for work in 4 hours. I leave for Jamaica in one week. This is all happening and this all starting to sink in. But I need that 4 hours of sleep.
I promise if this song takes off like Red Rose knows it potentially could, that I will not be a D-Bag. I pledge to you. After all these years of recording songs that coulda’ shoulda’ been hits, Jamaica and Anthony Red Rose specifically put me on in a way that could really send a song into the consciousness of the world.
Even if doesn’t, Red Rose and I didn’t waste a minute, because we both serve the music and ‘Free Your Mind’ is a good song with amazing production and nobody can ever take that away from us. But I know that with out the people of Jamaica, one Jamaican legend in particular, this song is more than just another catchy song idea, I had a cool feeling about, that might have got lost on my phone.
Then again it did come to me in Scott Rowe and Lou Johnson Garden in Brighton where I also wrote, ‘I Don’t Want to Leave’, so maybe it’s destiny. Maybe as Bob Lovelace has alluded to, some kind of mischevious English pixie ferry sprinkled me with magic dust she should have saved for BREXIT, but maybe thought I wouldn’t waste the last of her little stash.
I promise you I won’t. I am just a half Puerto Rican Viking that has more hooks than he knows what to do with, but could use a little more sleep. But I gotta’ get that money for the video.
Thank you Amber Vaughn.
