STREETS ON FIRE: Why Does Everything Have to Happen as Soon As I Arrive? Fear and Gunplay in Montego Bay, by Davin Michael Stedman

Well my Jamaica tour got more exciting. It’s going to be a story. I am rolling with some good dudes when I sing in Trenchtown, and the crew I am shooting the ‘Free Your Mind’ video with are the legends. But why does it have to pop off right now?

Jamaica is always going to give me something to write about. If this Country could be even a bit more safe, they would make a lot more money.

Imagine when I was walking from Chinna’s to Sly and Robbie’s by myself, as I strolled so cool with my guitar, interrupted by taxi drivers hitting their breaks every 4 beats, to say,

“Need a Taxi?”

“Na…I’m Good”

“Bless.” Taxi driver speeds away. 4 beats later…”Need a Taxi?”

I still haven’t forgot James Bond’s pen Sir Ian Fleming and his advice to British agents as a resident of Jamaica. He told them to avoid Kingston. But a musician can’t avoid Kingston. That’s where all the action is. That’s where my friends are.

…and for those that live there, travel warnings aren’t much help at all.

I am setting my controls for the heart of the Sun.
