JAMAICA UPDATE: Man I just got a call from Lenni I-Music in Jamaica. Send this dude some friend requests. This is a friend that I want to be rolling around Kingdston with. He’s such a SOLID dude and damn good singer and songwriter.
This ain’t no side kick talk. I am lucky to be his side kick, and roll in the side car. He was the guy that drove me from Montego Bay to Kingston when Shawn Lambert invited me to his session with Sly Dunbar. He was with me at Chinna’s, he was the one at the Sly and Robbie session that pulled me aside and said,
“Don’t stare a gift horse in the mouth” when Sly and Robbie and Anthony Red Rose did such a tremendous thing for me as a musician that truly needs a big break and a hit. He was so right.
I want to do what I can to promote his band Kasharootz and his solo career. I also want to develop my title track ‘West Indian Rock’ with him because he understands the album concept better than I do, and I came up with idea. But this man can realize it.
If I am going to run around the streets of Kingston, this is the guy I want to run them with. When he told me a few minutes that he was going to be in Kingston and he was ready to roll, I can’t lie. I just suddenly felt much better about this whole endeavor.
I am on Team Lenni I. This is the first guy on BJ DjSticky (Bluejay aka Dj Sticky )’s Sick Donkey Records squad that I met, and was #1 for a reason.
I want to see Lenni rise through the ranks of Jamaican music and be heard. He is helping me do the same, which is a thing that doesn’t even seem like a real thing but it is.
I am going to Kingston to promote my single with Sly & Robbie and Anthony Red Rose. This is real life.
And Lenni I is a young wise man that can navigate those streets in more ways than one. But boy can he drive!
