Copyright and Publishing Workshop With Jordani Sarreal Coming Up on March 11, by Davin Michael Stedman

I sat down with one of the coolest kids in school, Miss Jordani Sarreal to discuss her Copyright and Publishing workshop coming up Sunday March 11th in Tacoma. I can’t say enough about how important this workshop is to independent musicians today. Nor can I properly convey the street value of Jordani’s wicked set of skills on the keyboard, on a pro tools rig, or her music business expertise that are based on real experiences, cashing checks royalty checks for licensing and sales.

Jordani is doing it, and doing it right. By applying up to date techniques and the tools she is going to hand you, you can to. Knowledge is power. We can try to do it on our own, but doing it wrong or doing nothing at all is self defeating. Look out for more Jordani Q & A Gold in the East Portland Blog

DAVIN: What was the toughest lesson ever had to learn about publishing through the school of hard knocks and practical experience?

Jordani Sarreal: When I got my first song placement with Universal, I was nowhere near ready with the paperwork they needed. Luckily everyone was local to me and I could have them sign off on the papers for their contributions to the recording, but if this hadn’t been the case, I’m not sure the placement would have gone through.

Music Supervisors and song pluggers work on very tight schedules and they need to know the material they are using is absolutely cleared to use. Because this sort of situation happens often, I’ve made a checklist for artists to have that will make sure their songs are prepared for use once the opportunity comes.
