Seattle police’s lip-sync video of Macklemore’s “Downtown” (above) has rightfully drawn a lot of attention. The department still under a Department of Justice order to eliminate brutality, especially against people of color, has thoroughly embraced the Seattle rapper’s one-love vibe while putting their show on the road, blowing away police department lip-syncing videos from around the country.
What really caught Knute Rimkus’ attention though, is a little promo video the police cut before the video was released. Seattle was challenged to do the lip-sync by Norfolk police, and the clip shows Seattle police accepting the challenge. More blooper than real, the video shows multiple bad takes before a beautiful officer in full gear tells the camera, “You asked for the rain, we’re going to give you a storm.” She’s so cute and tough at the same time, Knute was moved to poetry.
She’s bossy and she’s saucy. How she do dat?
That badge is brassy and she shy!
So sang-froy and yet so hott.
Don’t #metoo me, but dat girl is Seattle’s finest
It was surprising that Knute was so drawn to a uniform. “It’s delightfully complicated,” he says. “The uni adds to her authority, but that’s only part of the alluring yin-yang of toughness and vulnerability, humility and almost arrogance, seriousness and playfulness that the woman projects in 15 seconds.”
