This Thursday, I am recording on a Sly & Robbie Riddim for the Reggae Powerhouse Band‘s debut album. I gotta do what I do, because I hear this riddim the way I hear it:
Listen Mamacita, You can call me papi
Second coming of Daniel Santos, embodies
The Rebel spirit, my blood is Taino
a loyal nino, Red Rose es mi PadrinoI seen what I seen though
I bean where I been though
If I took you around the world
You could lean where I lean thoughI croon to the moon,
like Sammy, Frank, and Dino
But I’ll never sing as dope as Dennis Brown
and that’s the truth thoughpeople might ask,
you about that life?
are you really bout the music,
can you rock all night?Do you really got a plan?
Will you roll the dice?
Do you really got a dream
if ya soul’s on ice?I was talking to a Jamaican band leader about some moves he was making on my 10 minute break…and this song idea came to me. Jamaica loves a good folk pop melody. Bob Marley was the master of the great camp fire song, which is high art.
This a glimpse into me sending a melody and chords to Jamaica – a Hook – to the Caribbean. They might use it they might not.
But with the right reggae riddim of an expert’s choosing, this is an anthem.
I even show you how to play it…upside down.
These squirrels are diabolical. I turned my back and he was at it again. Last week he was eating nuts and dropping them on the car all loud, making a scene just staring at me screaming “Thug Life”.
Everett squirrels are ruthless.
