Going back to that magic place Thursday. I am recording with Mell Dettmer. She captured and crafted some of my greatest vocal performances, particularly in the last year or so.
Listen to the vocals on ‘Jack The Ripper’, my Dennis Brown cover of ‘How Could I Leave’, ‘I Don’t Want to Leave’, ‘Free Your Mind’, the soon to be heard Staxx Brothers single ‘Natural’…
I Don’t Want to Leave:
I have had some moments of self doubt and triumph within these walls. Moments of reflection in this bamboo garden.
This is one of the great places in all of Seattle. This is West Seattle. A glimpse into what Seattle was and could still be.
I just dropped off the New Orleans recordings at Mell Dettmer‘s studio, at the feet of her bamboo jungle in West Seattle.
The recordings feature Eric Bolivar and Eric Struthers. Did you know Mr. Struthers is flying up to Seattle to play with The Staxx Brothers on Saturday November 3rd at Seamonster Lounge?
Of course not. The only people who knew this fact was myself and owner & don, Andrew Honey Child Nunez?
Eric is best known for his work with The Neville Brothers in various projects. He is currently tbe guitar player for Dr. John.
He is coming up for a week to get a real taste of the city and the scene, from folks like myself, Dr. Bob Lovelace, and Eric Martin.
In the meantime, I am going to be slow cooking these recordings. I need to lay down my final vocals, and I could use Stephanie Anne Johnson on back ups, some horn charts from Tracy Ferrara, and if he may grant us the honor of a third appearance on a Staxx Brothers album, I want Joe Doria on the New Orleans album.
I am going to finish these two tracks in West Seattle and show you why I am going down to New Orleans to cut 6 or 8 more, including elusive tracks like ‘Super Nova Child’ and ‘Our Hip Hop & Soul IS The Next Rock & Roll’. Justin Armstrong will be behind the board as we assemble one of the greatest session bands you could imagine…
And make a Mike Martin movie.
☆Now off to Nectar Lounge to grab a couple posters for my appearance opening for Israel Vibration & The Roots Radics Sept 12th, as…
Davin Michael Stedman & Hold in Fyah. I got quite a lot on my plate, and I am going back for seconds.
Hangar 420 Snohomish is coming together real nice. Come see me. I am working 7 days a week selling the Devil’s sweet lettuce, and I think I am hallucinating like when you played too much Tetris and you see the blocks falling when you close your eyes.Except I see grams and ounces and wizard stones and blunts.
I kid, but how did weed turn me into a workaholic and semi responsible adult?
9929 Airport Way, Everett, Wa. Come see me. These prices are so cheap right now its ludicrous.
