Lend Me Your Eyes, Cover Your Ears, We Have Worshiped These Radioactive Boxes For Too Many Years, by Davin Michael Stedman

I didn’t want to do it, but I had to do it. The call is coming for me to go back to Jamaica to play some actual shows. I needed a better phone.

The second trip I was balling on such a tight budget I had to bring this entry level Samsung, after rocking an iphone on these adventures. My photos ever since have been pretty sh☆tty by comparison. Some important moments were out of focus, or too dark, lofi at best. There is only so much terd polishing you can do with an instagram filter.

Now the funny part of my visit to T Mobile is this. When they tried to move over my contacts there were over 4000 of them. They had never seen anything near that number before.

But dating back to my first cell phone in 2003 that Stephen Norris sold me, I have never lost any of em’. And for an ADHD dude like me that is a little concerning because my attachment to that device for the last 15 years has been severe. But who is noticing when we’re all hooked on technology like junkies. Take someone’s phone away and watch them panic like they lost a detachable limb and half their brain stem.

Despite of my track record, I am taking this entry level Samsung as a back up. There ain’t no T Mobile stores where I’m going.

The disturbing part is when the folks at T Mobile wanted me to set up facial recognition, retina scans, finger prints. The best I can do is a sperm sample. Anybody considered a dick print? Sorry a mushroom stamp. We’re in mixed company.

Because a sperm sample on demand is still less disturbing and intimate than being tracked everywhere by facial recognition software. Not to mention this nightmare scenario:

The urge of a would be phone thief to remove your thumb or eyeball to unlock your device that does too much of everything for us to function even one day without one.

There is an app for everything today except the things we actually need, like affordable healthcare and more quality time with our families.

…and an app to stop the dismantling of our privacy and civil liberties. Because how are corporations going make enough money from civil liberties to give you something for free that you already had before they fought hard to take them away?

For the record my service at T Mobile on Evergreen Way was fantastic.

Now to take Adam Kutchman‘s advice an get some decent recording software on this thing.
