You are paying rent for your own body, to experience indifference… – DMS
Correct me if I am wrong but back in the Reagan era, when people shouted at homeless people to get a job, what that person was truly saying was that they should get an entry level position and pay rent.
But many could not because they had been driven out of mental hospitals because of cuts to social programs.
Now somehow in an era of peak employment we can’t seem to yell that anymore because deep down we know that our employment numbers are based on the genius of share cropping.
Everyone can share jobs! There is a little part time jobbie job for everyone out there in the fields. But there isn’t enough money on the table to keep up with the Plantation owner’s ledger.
But there is credit. And you can buy booze with it. And every sharecropper can afford Netflix.
The only one on the Plantation livin’ larger than the low down, are the cats like Muddy Waters with a side hustle. He was bootlegging. Risky business. That’s how you get cut.
I am watching a city of Share Croppers. I see The Plantations. It’s no wonder there are so many pills. How else can we get high enough on prescriptions to ignore the Truth, or be medicated just enough not to really care?
That’s what a pain killer does.
You know you’re in pain, and somebody else is in pain, but you don’t really care…for a while.
You are paying rent for your own body, to experience indifference. No wonder the come down is described as so close to dying…or just plain Hell. You no longer even own your own vessel and hell, burial costs are rising as well. Pop another one.
☆ It used to be that moving back in with your parents was a thing. Now it’s going to camping as a means of sustainability i.e. survival.
Those Boy Scout and Camp Fire Girl skills are going to be at a premium. Save $2000 a month by living in a tent on Bert Gillman Trail. Because that is a thing for some families. Working families.
“Get a job homeless guy…that pays 6 figures and offers full benefits…or live in a ditch.”
