Known for his comic and controversial lyrics, Kafinal brings us another song that should be a definite conversation starter. After having won Canada’s coveted music award, the Juno, in 2016, fans have been greeting each new release from Kafinal as a long awaited hit or crowd favorite. Timing is everything; this summer was busy with released singles like “Stunner Boss” and now he is finally ready to present the anticipated and well teased Talk or No Talk.
What began as a true scenario between friends is now his latest project and release “Talk or No Talk”. As Kafinal explains, he and a close friend were talking about whether either person would reveal details of the cheating acts of their respective spouse/girlfriend to their best friend. The question became a debate about who would talk or not and later would form the lyrics for the song.
Why team with Queen Ifrica? The short answer is that the debate needed a woman’s opinion. But not just any woman, it needed one whose opinions matter musically. “Everybody knows Queen Ifrica as a straight shooter. Given the concept of the song and story behind it, there is no other artist I could pair with on this project”, says Kafinal. He does admit that it was a bit of a wish and prayer that the very busy Ifrica would make time for this project. The listening audience will however agree that her nuanced honesty in the lyrics and delivery are a perfect fit.
This tune also features the musical arrangement of Canadian band “Di Cru” and the recording ear of Juno winner Eddie Bullen, a Canadian Jazz great and producer. “Talk or No Talk” is expected to have everybody asking the question of their closest friends and perhaps extending this debate beyond lyrics. The journey of these lyrics now goes to the court of public opinion. If you knew your friend was being cheated on would you talk or no talk?
