Shall We Seize the Day? by Davin Michael Stedman

I have been fighting myself not to start writing a new song everyday. A real accomplishment would be finishing a song week. But tonight I lost that War.

The motto of Carpe Diem has fascinated me since I first learned the Latin phrase, which translates to “seize the day.”

I just came back from a run listening to songs like Kurt Vile’s ‘Pretty Pimping’ and Pavement’s ‘Range Life’ and this melody came to me.

My head was also full of beautiful boroque and classical music from new movie, The Favorite, about a buck wild Love triangle between Queen Anne, Winston Churchill’s great grandma and her little cousin on the come up.

I need to finish ‘Crisis of Faith’ for Adam Kutchman and polish ‘Bad Man’ for Scott Rowe.

It remains to be seen if putting a kink in this firehose will yield stronger material, and if it will buy me more focus to organize my Soul United Productions office, national library, and rehearsal facility aka this pretty damn cool basement.

Because I desperately do want to seize the day, even if I am living a simpler, quiet life…for now.

Davin’s new song has become a global earworm and Caribbean dancehall hit. Listen here on Reggaeville: DAVIN MICHAEL STEDMAN & ANTHONY RED ROSE – FREE YOUR MIND FEAT. SLY & ROBBIE WITH LENKY MARSDEN. The video is now available on Youtube.
