If you listen closely, you can hear that this song was recorded on a Selectric typewriter and not on the slicker Kaypro word processors that came along only months later. It’s a great album made with rudimentary technology. Yet neither Alison Moyet nor Vince Clarke were ever to be quite this thrilling again, despite many upgrades and opportunities and loyal fans checking back to find out what happened to the Yazoo Two. It is as if their cosmic, iconic, well-loved, oft-remembered moment and laudable skills were best showcased on equipment that sounded dated almost as soon as their deathless album was released.
And then, this… By 2016 Burberry would show us what had become of the Yazoo Two.
