Inspired by the childhood game “The floor is lava,” a game that stands as a solid hallmark of a carefree childhood, it was this feeling which led to the idea behind the new single of the same name by Trondheim Norway’s Amanda Tenfjord, co-written and produced by Sløtface bassist Lasse Lokøy (Lokoy).
En route to her studio session with Lokøy, Amanda passed some children playing hide and seek. Their unbridled joy at something so simple (and the distinct lack of worry that comes with being a child) struck her. “It looked so lovely,” says Tenfjord, “avoiding being ‘seen’ was seemingly their biggest obstacle in life. The song is really about being high on life and having a good time without being particularly influenced by other things. Pure ignorant happiness, just like when you were a child!”
Originally hailing from a small village in western Norway called Tennfjord (yes, Tenfjord is also her real surname), Amanda is now based in Trondheim – which is becoming something of a mecca for forward-thinking pop artists. The 22-year-old brings that forward thinking approach to songwriting and collaboration on ‘The Floor Is Lava’.
Co-written and produced by Sløtface bassist Lasse Lokøy, his progressive pop production brings the song to life. Speaking on his work with Amanda, Lasse said: “I know Amanda from football training (she’s pretty good at football, and I’m pretty bad!). We tried to write the lyrics to resonate with the feeling of freedom when you’re a child. It’s about the infinite possibilities available to you in your childhood – and wanting to relive, or recreate that in your adult years.”
