I’ve got the killer debut single here from Norfolk guitar slinger Michael Paul Lawson, whose visceral lyrics recall the Sam Stone–Paradise work of John Prine.
You can smell barroom pheromones and coagulated blood in the air on this one. This is carnal (which means both “meaty” and “sexual”) Americana with cinematic overtones. Suffice to say, this a banger-songwriter who deserves a straight up listen.
Lawson’s debut, Some Fights You’ll Never Win, was produced by Daniel Mendez (Noah Gundersen and The Native Sibling) and will force it’s way into the center of our attention by July 12th.
