James Micah Basnight is a Pacific Northwest rock’n roll superhero. He’s tough as nails. He was there for Seattle’s DIY-beginning in the late 70s and has been rocking around the Northwest and the world ever since. He had a good run in New York in the late 70s where he played legendary clubs like CBGBs with his his band, the Moberlys, and he also had a good solo run in LA in the eighties where he hung out with music luminaries like Kim Fowley and learned the wily ways of the entertainment game. I met him in the 90s and he’s always been one of the nice guys of rock’n roll, a fun hang with lots of good stories.
His new album is called Not Changing and it’s doing well on all platforms. “Living The Way I Want” from Not Changing (above) debuted on Little Steven’s Underground Garage on the Sirius XM network on the Speedie John radio show on 03/24/2019. Jimmy Basnight and Little Steven go well together, they’ve been around, they’re built to last, and they were cut from the same old school rock’n roll cloth. Everyone should watch the Youtube clip above because it has some great shots of Jim through the years.
These days Jim performs with his four-piece band, or solo. or duo with multi-instrumentalist Mikel Rollins (sax/flute/harmonica/percussion) all around the NW in WA, OR, MT, WY, UT and ID, with occasional trips to NY, LA, Chicago, Memphis, Atlanta, Cleveland and the San Francisco Bay Area. He is the ultimate road warrior.
