APOLOGIES IF A VIDEO ISN’T AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY

1 Angie – Movement  (3)

We’ve got a lot of guitar this week and we start the chart off with a great tune from Angie of whom we know nothing about, always good a bit of mystery, we say. Top track though.

2  Earth Tongue – Microscopic God (73)

More guitar and that proto 68-71  heavy rock vibe coming through. Not sure what they are on about but with that buzzsaw going on, does it really matter.

3  Egyptian Blue – Collateral (130 )

And yes another guitar tune.. it’s obviously back in vogue.

4  Fia Fiel – Caju (122)

At long last a bit of peace and quiet !  Atmospheric Australian outfit making rather wonderful understated electronica that doesn’t drift aimlessly. Very engaging indeed. Thanks to Stuart Buchanan for bringing them to our attention

5  After London – You’re So Cold (150)

Nice bit of indie drama about a boyfriend / girlfriend, you know the score.

6  Louis Tillett & Charlie Owen – One Kind Of Favour (186)

A real treat this one. A re-issue of a classic album by the great Louis Tillett (Wet Taxis). For fans of Nick Cave, Rowland S Howard etc. Tillett, As publication Feedbacker say….“A man who comes across as a bearer of  great beauty as well as harbourer of many tortured souls,  Sydney’s Louis Tillett is the Nick Cave or Scott Walker  that you may never hear and you will have missed out dearly because of that.”

7  Radiator Hospital – Weird Little Idea (292)

You know how every other band sounds like the Idles these days. Well i’ve noticed something similar with cult band Ultimate Painting who haven’t released an album for a while, but it doesn’t really matter as more and more are doing versions of the same thing. This lot are at the top end and worth giving time to.

8  The Shadracks  – Plastic Lives (377)

They’ve been around a few years and are just the sort of thing BOP loves and they admit they are no better than anybody else out there. Excellent band.

9 Prettiest Eyes – Dandy  (494)

We’re a bit behind the curveball with this lot.. garage synth rock, fab and on CastleFace too. Great band and this tune is particularly good

10  Gino & The Goons – Watch You Shine  (820)

Band name of the week and a great slice of lo-fi garage with a pop hook going on, Joey Ramone would love it.

THE BORDELLOS
CRABS EP

We have here a delicious anti record shop release by nobody less than the Bordellos. Thank you The Bordellos! You are life savers!
YEAH I KNOW IT SUCKS

The Bordellos are making some of the best pop music I’ve heard, it’s just they’re doing it in such a wilfully obscure way you’ll never hear it.
HEAD HERITAGE

YOU WILL FLOOD THE RIVER
AMSTERDAM

The truth is, I would imagine, that these songs are the very antithesis of the manufactured happy pills that count as pop songs these days and that makes them,
for that very reason,  worthy of a list

Because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know.

We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.

But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know.
