1 Hygiene – Replacement (22)
Anybody who has caught a train on the weekend in the UK will know this. From a fantastic new album that just chips away at what its really like to live in the UK these days. He’s only an hour late, obviously not a Southern Rail user then!
2 Plastic Mermaids – Ooh (20)
Amazing band from the Isle of Wight ( The Bees were from the Isle of Wight) or as my old man used to call it, the pile of shite, I digress. If you go for the Flaming Lips thing and we do here at BOP then you are going to love this band. Actually they manage to sound like a really psychedelic Portugal The Man, with Beatles touches, another plus in our book. Falling in love with this lot at hyperspeed.
3 Mazouni – Je Suis Seul (19)
Algerian artist who recorded in France throughout the 60’s & 70’s. As well as being tres cool francais his songs have that seventies Bollywood feel about them. Make sure you listen to this.
4 Dean & Britta – Teen Angel (11)
These guys have form and you can hear it in this tune. A musical duo consisting of Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, both former members of Luna. Wareham had formed Luna in 1991 after leaving his first band, Galaxie 500. The gentlest of west coast pop psychedelia that just draws you in
5 Weird Omen – Wild Honey (26)
Another great new band with a psych edge.. we seem to be veering towards that sound this week. Maybe it’s because summer is on the way.
6 John Compton – Hot Cross Buns (25)
OK, easter is over but who can resist a song called hot cross buns. From his 1971 album , “To Luna”.. the next time he released an album was the mid eighties. Is he still with us? Haven’t got a clue. Check out the album though, its got a great cover.
7 The Chefs – Food (83)
Fabulous Brighton (UK) band of the late 1970’s / early 80’s. Featured on the Vaultage 78 album and released a few singles. Well worth checking out their other tunes.
8 The Risin’ Sun – Melting Walls (98)
This is from 2015. Hadn’t come across them before , better to come late than never at all, though. Great classic rock with harmonies. I agree that description doesn’t make them sound that exciting , all we can say is that they are more than the sum of their parts.
9 Woxow – Chaos (274)
Great old school funky hip hop reggae band vibe going on.. sort of thing you may have heard at a fest in the mid noughties. Ok Israeli hippies will love it but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t at least give it a listen
10 Otoboke Beaver – Introduce Me To Your Family (350)
This band are so good. I gather they have just toured the UK , hope they come to Australia.. they have it all. Love them

THE BORDELLOS
CRABS EP
We have here a delicious anti record shop release by nobody less than the Bordellos. Thank you The Bordellos! You are life savers!
YEAH I KNOW IT SUCKS
The Bordellos are making some of the best pop music I’ve heard, it’s just they’re doing it in such a wilfully obscure way you’ll never hear it.
