Zsela – Noise

In early 2019, NYC-based singer-songwriter Zsela quietly and independently released her first song “Noise”, a somber and sparse jazz-influenced ballad produced by Daniel Aged (Inc. No World) that captures an intimate moment in the early hours of solitude and longing. Today Zsela shares the official video for the song, capturing that similar feeling in the hustle and bustle of busy New York streets, making her way out of the crowd to come to the forefront – an easy and honest metaphor for the singer’s trajectory. Co-directed by feted photographer Daniel Arnold, known best for capturing the most impossibly intimate moments of life, from New York subway cars to the Met Gala, this occasion marks the first time the two artists have collaborated and Arnold’s first time every directing a music video.

On the video, Arnold muses “Here’s the New York that drags you through the day when you’re busted; the teenage breeze tossing your ripped trash plastic body up 65 feet at stupid blue condos and drifting you down to spin in bodega doorways ’til you feel pretty again. The one who laughs in your flat broke sad sack heartbreak face til you’re laughing back. It’s 5AM somewhere but the sidewalk here at sunset is a slow motion ocean anyway, and the traces of the way you used to cry only make your laugh all the harder to forget. That’s an interpolation of Zsela lyrics. Lily pads to float on through a song that twists you how the water goes even if you only listen to the music. Times Square at 7. Times Square at 115. And little you, nudged forever onward by the noise. “Noise” was filmed before a live studio audience that wouldn’t stay in their seats. We never made a music video before. Is this one?”
