“Hailing from Stockholm, Birthday Girl has developed a reputation for its noisy and aggressive sound. You certainly don’t get praised by the likes of Iggy Pop without a little edge to your music.”

Stockholm-based alternative rock band Birthday Girl share their new single and music video “I Came Here To Eat.” Last week, New Noise Magazine exclusively premiered the track, praising, “The track is led by a steady chug of the bass, with atmospheric swirls covering the surrounding space. The music video matches this tone, shot in shadows and dim lights. The band look on to different performances that act as different human interpretations.”

The new single “I Came Here To Eat” is out today on all digital streaming platforms via the band’s own Sweet Cream Records. Staying true to the noisy and aggressive nature of their debut release, with a slower tempo and groove, Fran wrote the song about the feeling of “wanting to completely devour someone to the point of cannibalism”. It was recorded in their rehearsal studio in Stockholm, with UK engineer Lee Turner and Swedish Producer Björn Stålhammar.

Summer 2016, having recently moved to Stockholm, Sweden, Merseyside twins Martin and Fran Baxter with James Corden conceived Birthday Girl whilst living in a single room with one folding down bed and DJing for pocket money. Fran on vocals and guitar, Martin on drums and James on bass, with Sweden’s Joakim Sandegård joining soon after. The band focused on creating music that combined raw aggression and noise, with gentle melodies and harmony.

They released their first single “Welcome Home Frank Bastard” on UK label “Hide And Seek Records” in 2017, a song about a lonely man taking out his frustration on his pet cat. The single was picked up by Iggy Pop who featured it on his BBC6 music radio show and the group began playing live around Stockholm.

After a night DJing in a local bar they found a credit card on the floor which happened to belong to the Glasvegas singer James Allan, upon returning the card they struck up a friendship, which lead to James inviting Birthday Girl to open for Glasvegas on their 2018 UK tour.

Following the UK tour the band joined Underground Youth on their Swedish tour dates before taking to the studio during Winter 2018 to start work on their debut record.

Birthday Girl will return to the live scene this Spring (2019), touring Europe, playing shows in Sweden, Norway, England, Germany and France.
