1 Andras – Conch (6)
We start this week with an outstanding big room (of old) tune. On a big clean loud system this one is a floor rocker for jiggers and movers alike.
2 Devon & Jah Lovers – Freedom Fighta (48)
On first listen it sounds a bit cheesy.. is it euro fest summer festival fare? But no, it’s somewhat better than that. Somehow it has a cool Mikey Dread meets Eddie Grant feel and we’re getting fonder of it each listen.
3 Neutrals – Hate The Summer of Love (72)
Sort of sounds like an early Jam demo would, but without the passion.
4 Workingman’s Club – Teeth (160)
This week’s outta Manchester sell up. Actually they aren’t half bad. At least they’re using A Certain Ratio as their Manchester touch plate/ stone. We shall see, as my grandmother used to say.
5 Dillon Presents: Lobsterdamus – Claws Up (Lobby Dom’s Theme) (236)
Lobster hip hop action. We’re in!
6. Love Letters – Nag (398)
Great tune, jackin’ electro updated that doesn’t run out of ideas.
7 Cagework – Eileen (450)
Poppy New Wave thing that gets a little overexcited from time to time.
8. The Sale of Joy – Shakira (447)
This one was sent in and we’re glad it was. Sounds the Banana Splits meets the Dandy Warhols when they were good and even some of the hallowed Ten Benson is in there too. That, we have to tell you, is high praise indeed. Like Gino & Goons and the Chats here’s another band in 2019 who get the Ramones without having to sound like them.
9 Japanese Television – Crocodile Dentist (768)
We featured their first ep last year sometime, and now they’re back and sounding even better. This bit of tropical sub Cramps at Dick Dale’s house hits the spot nicely.
10 Odd Nosdam – Flippies Rock Tape (795)
This is a must listen, short mixtape. Half an hour long and genius. It’s like they managed to get Norman Jay, Psychemagik, Soulwax, Pilooski all to do some LSD together and left them with a bunch of records from 68-85. Love it
