APOLOGIES IF A VIDEO ISN’T AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY
1 Phillip Matalla – Bango (2)
Great new release on Optimo. Italian producre creates a dub very rendolent of something that Peaking Lights might do but with a southern european aesthetic, sublime.
2 The Cold Spells – Mayday (6)
New one from the Cold Spells. We’ve been enjoying their releases all this year and last on Gare Du Nord and this new one is great too.
3 David Novick – Common Tern (27)
From a new compilation that brings together some of the quieter sounds emanating from San Francisco. He had us on the title alone.
4 The Frixion – I Cannot Play These Games (41)
We haven’t had any electro euro pop for a while, so here’s some for you. Not going to change the world but it wafts by in a pleasant enough fashion.
5 Peter Jeffries – Last Ticket Home (98)
Attracted to listen to this guy’s album over the past week as he reminded us somewhat of Robyn Hitchcock. His songs probably aren’t up there with Robyn’s quite yet but we are already finding he’s writing songs that we want to return to.
6 Gordon Koang – Salaam (384)
Another one from Australia based South Sudanese musician, Gordon Koang. Getting very addicted to his music on repeat most days at the moment.
7 Benefits – Taking Us Back (454)
More UK music reflecting that state of the country back at itself. “We’re All Pissing In The Gutters, this will be England ,Forever Shite”
8 Julien Babinga – M’Bongui-Percussions (521)
An oldie, but a goodie. If you haven’t heard this before ,we say listen and listen now. An underground club classic that will always sound current.
9 Jas Shaw – Popes of Dischord (525)
Builder, chugger monster is the 2nd release in the ongoing series “The Exquisite Cops”, on Delicacies records. If their other releases are going to be as good as this we’ll be following this label.
10 Yelfris Valdés – Red Eclipse (994)
Just slipping in under the 1000 for this Cuban trombonist who blows like Miles in the 50’s and is supported by some rather wonderful production that brings out the best of his trumpet.
