1 Pye Corner Audio – Solar Waves (16)
Brand new in from PCA and it’s fully mental, like! If you’re a fan don’t bypass this, he’s really stepped it up a notch.
2 Pavlov’s Puss – Prison Phone (4)
Already featured in the last couple of weeks and now the album is out and it’s got us hooked straight away. Sharp organic guitar tunes with attitude. Could say they sound like lots of bands we love from the Fall to Bodega to early Beck.. but in the end they are just one of the few magic ones who sound like themselves. Sneaking in as one of the album’s of the year for us.
3 Skiftande Enheter – Snubblar genom drömmar (35)
They’ve toned down the energy a tad but no matter we love these crazy Swedes and their glorious garage pop.
4 Songhoy Blues – Meet Me In The City (92)
A perfect amalgamation of sounds. We’ve got that droning desert guitar and downbeat west coast funk thing going on here.
5 Tunes Of Negation – Nowhere Ending Sky (121)
Shackleton is back and what a return. Parts of the Skull Disco palette are here, but now we head off to outer space accompanied by a Balinese temple and a troupe of musical concepts to help us on the infinite journey. As we say over & over again there’s few out there whoo can compete with this artist’s compositions. Instead of “Clapton is God” it should be “Shackleton Is God”.
6 LoE LoF LoN – Round Round (168)
Slightly bonkers Spaniards that we’ve fallen in love with over the last couple of years. Here they do their thing and have given it a King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown vibe.
7 Natty x Mala x Benjamin Zephaniah – Word & Sound (280)
Another UK treat for us this week. Dubstep / Garage legends team up with one of Britain’s greatest living poets and intellectuals to deliver a downtempo tune par excellence.
8 The Heartwood Institute – Devils Riders (386)
We hark back to Tangerine Dream and ilk here. Tuning in well with the visuals of old school UK Hell’s Angels riding their bikes on 1970’s A Roads
9 Carla Dal Forno – I’m Conscious (502)
Forget about Cave’s latest outing, we say. Instead hang out with Carla on her latest album. Future classic on the way.
10 Sault – Threats (967)
People are getting pretty excited by this new UK outfit. I can see why .. it’s almost as though they could be the Soul to Soul of this generation. It’s that classic UK refraction of all that is best in African American music that takes the next step to make something new.
