Best song title of the week. It’s not hard to imagine what this sounds like. As they used to say back in the day. “That sounds a bit arty.”
2 Los Siquicos Litoraleños – El Lagarto (31)
Our favourite new band. Out of Argentina, they sound like no-one or nothing else. The closest we can think of saying is imagine Konono no.1’s aesthetic applied to a South American folk and rock traditions. It’s amazing stuff.
3 California Girls – Small Birds (46)
This lot sound like they are out of Aus and indeed they are. From Canberra to be exact. His debut is due in March. Harder edged and organic pop synth with attitude. Well worth a listen.
4 Cambodian Space Project – Five Lady Cows ( Professor Kinski’s BBQ Mix) (203)
Hidden deep in the dark depths of Prof Kinski’s hard drive was this remix. It’s now come out, to join with this world of ours. Kak Channthy left us way too early.
5 Stone Harbour – Still Like That Rock And Roll 1974 (281)
First time we’ve heard this album from 1974 which comes as a bit of a revelation. Sometimes it sounds like an early Beck record, other times it sounds like that first burst of early Oasis trying emulate Beatles psychedelia. We could have chosen any track of the album and settled on this.
6 Dismembered Sound Booth – Hackney Sinister (314)
Born of the same world as Meat Raffle and friends. Well worth a listen.
7 YĪN YĪN – A Ballad For Chong Wang (394)
After two singles on Les Disques Bongo Joe, they’re back with their debut « The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers » . Made of disco grooves, powerful “thaï beat” tunes and experimental tropical synths.
8 Cornershop – England’s Dreaming (390)
New single and album coming soon so here’s a few years’ ago (2015) outing to remind you of what genius sounds like and how far ahead of the curve this band always are. Can’t wait for the new one.
9 Dur Dur Band – Daraadaa Muxibo (Because Of You Muxibo) (523)
Not the first time we’ve featured Mogadishu’s Dur Dur band from the 70’s. This out on a new comp called Mogadisco.
10 . The Vegan Leather – Heavy Handed (837)
Not a bad name for a band. The sounds ain’t half bad either.
